YMCA closer to a Union County facility

ymcaLEWISBURG – There will be a new YMCA in Lewisburg. The Greater Susquehanna Valley YMCA is ready to raise funds for a new facility in Union County. The board voted this week to move forward with fundraising to build the new facility in the near future.

CEO Bonnie Wassmer says, “We have been working hard to bring more Y programs and services to Lewisburg, Mifflinburg and our other communities in Union County for several years, and now things are lining up to make that a reality with a state of the art facility as well.”

Wassmer says there is no specific timetable for the project, as it depends on meeting fundraising goals and then construction time, “As a community not-for-profit, the YMCA will be seeking financial contributions to make this dream a reality.”

Plans for a Union County YMCA include a competitive pool and warm water therapy pool, a full-size gymnasium, health and wellness center, teen and senior program center and full-day childcare center. Wassmer says while the location is not set in stone, Weis Markets has offered the former Walmart building along Route 15 in Kelly Township. (Codi Jade)
