Mark Lawrence
Greetings from Mark Lawrence, Program Director at Newsradio 1070 WKOK. Here is an abbreviated biography. You may have questions; feel free to email me for more information. I was born and raised in Sunbury, lived with my 3 sisters and 1 brother in a big house and attended the Shikellamy schools. I graduated in 1977, worked a year at WTGC in Lewisburg, then attended the Penn State main campus for 4 years... I graduated in 1982 with a B.A. in Broadcast/Journalism...
I have 20 years experience in broadcasting. I have lived in Sunbury, State College, and in the Philadelphia area. I have also worked as a dishwasher, cook, golf caddy and telephone pollster! As a child, I used to spin the dials on an old radio at night and try to reach as many radio stations as possible... My radio "Career" began when, as a young fellow, I knew several people who worked at WKOK AM/FM in Sunbury. I would ride my bike or walk to the studios in The Fort Augusta museum and would hang out while they were on the air.
My first job in radio was at WTGC-AM-1010 in Lewisburg. After graduation from high school, I started as an automation minder, national and local newsreader and I did some production. I began to make news calls, go to meetings and started learning about local news. I left this job to go to Penn State, but worked there during one summer while in college. My next full time job came in 1983 in Bloomsburg at WHLM AM/FM. I was the afternoon news anchor, going to many meetings and reporting on many events... In 1987, I became News Director at WKOK/WQKX in Sunbury. I stayed there until December of 1996 when I joined Clear Channel in Williamsport.
In February of 2001, I returned to WKOK to be Program Director. I am anchoring the morning newscasts on Newsradio 1070, doing some news reporting and working helping to keep the station one of the top all-news radio stations in the state. I also host WKOK Sunrise and On The Mark.
