SELINSGROVE — The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board is moving two stores to new locations. Selinsgrove’s store will move from its current location on North Market Street to the Monroe Marketplace next to Michaels. The grand opening for the Selinsgrove location will be September 17, according to Stacy Kriedeman spokesperson for the PLCB.
The Lewisburg store will be leaving downtown to move to the new Penn House Commons in East Buffalo Township. A letter-writing campaign by the Lewisburg Downtown Partnership failed to convince the PLCB to keep the store in Lewisburg.
Linda Sterling, executive director of the Lewisburg Downtown Partnership said in May the loss of both CVS and the liquor store would not be impossible to overcome, “Downtown has weathered a whole lot of storms. When we started in 1999, there were thirteen vacancies down here. Two is not going to put us under.”
Kreideman says the PLCB considers consumer convenience, traffic, parking, and store demographics when the lease on a location is nearing its end. The Lewisburg store is expected to open around Thanksgiving. (Jennifer Wakeman)
