LEWISBURG — The Sunbury Pipeline will create 500 new jobs, use abundant natural gas, utilize a “job-ready” power plant, and help the entire Central Susquehanna Valley…so said representatives of the Greater Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce, a group called America’s Natural Gas Alliance and UGI. The three groups held a forum Friday.
Tony Cox, of UGI Energy Services, says the 35-mile long pipeline will create approximately 500 jobs and bring lower energy costs, “Natural gas availability is limited so it’ll increase the ability of the local distribution company to serve new customers and serve their existing customers with more supply.”
Local Representative Fred Keller (R-85th, Kreamer) asked what are the benefits of having the location of the pipeline at the Sunbury Power Plant. Cox said, “The Sunbury Generation Power Plant had a lot of existing infrastructure both water which is critical for a combined cycle natural gas power plant as well as access to the interstate transmission grid and it has several different options for taking the power away which gives it a unique benefit.”
The pipeline will stretch from Shamokin Dam in Snyder County to Lycoming County. Rob Boulware of America’s Natural Gas Alliance and Bruce Davis of UGI Utilities were also guest speakers at the luncheon.
