Sunbury officer injured during arrest

SUNBURY – An arrest Friday night sent one Sunbury police officer to the hospital. The Daily Item reports that Sgt. Chris Blase was kicked in the stomach and punched as he and officer Steve Bennick attempted to arrest Thomas Edison of 487 ½ North Second Street.

Tammy Herbert reported to police that her son-in-law, Thomas Edison was threatening her on the phone. Police found Edison and his wife, Leigh at a home on South Tenth Street.  As officers attempted to arrest Edison, Leigh Edison attacked officer Blase. In the struggle with Mrs. Edison, Blase lost his gun belt and was disarmed.  A third officer arrived on-scene and the two were eventually taken into custody.

Edison was charged with terroristic threats, resisting arrest and harassment. He was sent to Snyder County jail in lieu of $20,000 bail. Leigh Edison was charged with felony aggravated assault and disarming a police officer as well as misdemeanor charges. She is in jail in lieu of $25,000 bail. Officer Blase was taken to the hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries. (Jennifer Wakeman)
