SUNBURY– Sunbury will once again be auctioning real estate in the city in a continuing effort to remove blighted properties. The Sunbury Redevelopment Authority is holding public auctions this Saturday May 16.
Initially, there were five sites slated for auction, but two properties are being delayed due to a possible conflict of interest with Councilman Dale Henry. The Redevelopment Authority prohibits councilmen from bidding in a public auction.
Mayor David Persing says they are holding the properties only until the situation is clarified, “We agreed tonight without showing any favoritism whatsoever that we’re just going to hold these two properties until we get this clarified. He also agreed so if it comes back that he can’t do it, then he can’t do it, that’s just the way it is.”
Auctions will be held Saturday morning at the following three properties:
9:00 at 499 Race Street
10:00 at 139-141 Church Street
10:30 at 601 Edison Ave
A ruling on Henry’s ability to bid on property will be made by the next council meeting. (Lauren Koch)
