Thousands lose electric power after storms
UNDATED — A strong thunderstorm damaged trees and knocked out electric power to thousands of people in The Valley Tuesday evening. At the height of the storm, about 3,000 PPL customers were without electricity–including sections of busy Routes 11 & 15 in Shamokin Dam. K-Mart plaza, Orchard Hills plaza and traffic signals along the highway–all without power.
Now, PPL reports, all but a few customers in Columbia, Montour and Northumberland County are back online, but the number was in the hundreds in the early morning hours Wednesday.
Trees and branches were knocked down in Sunbury and Northumberland. A section of Route 254 in Columbia County was blocked during the storm.
