Steel Work Begins On Geisinger Medical Center Expansion

DANVILLE — Construction is moving upward at Geisinger Medical Center as steel work begins on a major expansion project.

Hospital officials say crews have started erecting the steel framework for a new 11-story patient tower and adjacent parking garage on the Danville campus.

Geisinger says more than 4,200 tons of steel will be used, with daily deliveries expected over the next year. The project includes a new emergency department, expanded operating rooms and intensive care units, and a transition to 100% private adult patient rooms.

Officials say the project will support thousands of construction-related jobs and generate more than $28 million annually in regional economic impact once complete.  The new tower and garage are expected to open in 2029.
