SUNBURY — About 60 Valley residents took time to recognize veterans from Northumberland County Saturday. An unveiling ceremony was held in Cameron Park to reveal the 2015 Hometown Veteran Banners, which is an effort of Sunbury Revitalization Incorporated. The banners hang from lamp posts on Market Street and Front Street.
Belinda Albright is director of veterans affairs in the county and spoke at the unveiling ceremony, “I think of few things more important than remembering the men and women who proudly served and defended our country. These banners bring a sense of pride to the community, as well as honor those who served in our military.”
The banners include the photo of a veteran along with their branch and era of service and hometown and they will remain in Sunbury through Veterans Day November 11. There are approximately 100 banners, which are paid for by family members or sponsored by local businesses. (Ali Stevens)
