Rep. Masser: Governor’s inaction is “trouble for many”

HARRISBURG – A local state representative is speaking out about the lack of a state budget.  Representative Kurt Masser (R-170th, Elysbrug) says the Governor’s inaction on the budget signals trouble for many.  Masser says the majority of people don’t realize the financial impact of having no budget in place because most state business has continued as normal.

Masser says the state right now is largely running on reserves and leftover money from last year to pay the bills.  He says this course of action will continue until the money runs out and things take a turn for the worse.  Masser says eventually human service organizations and nonprofits will shut down because they can’t operate without funding.

Further, he says if no budget is passed by September, schools across the state will suffer.  The budget was due at the end of July and was given to the Governor on-time, but he chose to veto the entire thing.  Since then, little has been done to reach an agreement on a state budget.  (Ali Stevens)
