Plans for affordable housing “off the table”

Lewisburg East Buffalo Township Penn Commons map plan

LEWISBURG — Did the Union County Housing Authority bow to public pressure? The authority has withdrawn preliminary plans for the Penn Commons low-income housing development in East Buffalo Township. The plan has drawn often heated comments from residents concerned about the impact on schools, roads and the community.

Ralph Hess, planning and zoning officer told WKOK he received a letter from the authority’s solicitor, Melissa Lobos, dated August 14 informing the township of the plan’s withdrawal.

Hess said any future plans for the 2.3 acre property, which is owned by the authority, will have to go through a new approval process. WKOK attempted to contact Bruce Quigley at the authority, but our call was not returned.  (Jennifer Wakeman)
