SELINSGROVE — A shadowbox containing hallowed 9/11 steel from Ground Zero in New York City will be presented to a local business today. Charlie Gussman, a New York City Fire Department first responder and representative from the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, will present the shadowbox to Fike Bros Carpet One in Selinsgrove at 4 p.m.
Gussman is visiting Selinsgrove to thank Fike Bros for the company’s support of the Foundation’s Building for America’s Bravest program. The program builds high-tech “smart homes” for service members returning home from war who have been seriously injured. Carpet One Floor & Home and its manufacturing partner, Mohawk, have committed to providing flooring materials and installation for 46 of these “smart homes.”
John Fike of Fike Bros Carpet One said, “We are truly humbled and honored that the Tunnel to Towers Foundation and members of the FDNY, who were actually at Ground Zero on 9/11 and during it’s aftermath, are traveling to visit and express their gratitude to us.” He said, “In fact, we are the ones who are thankful to them for their dedication and service.” (Ali Stevens)
