Standard-Journal editor receives award

hero2LEWISBURG – Chris Brady, the editor of the Standard Journal newspaper was honored with a Community Impact Award today for his series of newspaper stories honoring Vietnam Veterans.  The award was one of many given at the American Red Cross of North Central PA’s annual Heroes Breakfast.

Brady said he wants to thank the veterans for the award he received, “They allowed me to come into their homes.  They told me their stories.  It’s not always easy for these guys to talk.  I appreciate that tremendously because their stories need to be heard.  They weren’t welcomed home appropriately.  They did what their country asked them to do and they did it honorably. ”

Brady said, “This war that most of us have forgotten lives everyday with so many people, and people that you probably don’t even know have served.  This truly is an honor for these guys.  It’s dedicated to the Veterans that served and they deserve all the credit, because they are the heroes.”

Another award went to the Strike K-9 Search & Rescue Volunteer Team, who received the Animal Hero Award.  The group of K-9’s and their handlers are trained to find people lost in the woods.  The full list of award winners from the Red Cross Heroes Breakfast is posted below.
