The Daily Item reports a Mifflinburg man is charged with felony burglary and theft after allegedly stealing money from his family member with disabilities. 59-year-old Charles Mathew Smith is accused of taking $11,650 in cash, and a checkbook, from the home of a woman and her disabled daughter. The woman claims they had just cashed the daughter’s disability check and placed the money in a small safe in the home. Smith allegedly entered the home and took the money and checkbook from the safe. When confronted, the newspaper reports Smith admitted to the theft. He returned $9,000 of the stolen money but said he spent $2,650.
