Lewisburg Garden Tour blooms this weekend

garden1LEWISBURG — The Lewisburg Garden Club is giving people a chance to take in the beauty of some local gardens. The club is hosting its 7th Annual “Garden Tour of Lewisburg” this Saturday at 10am. The tour will visit six gardens, hand picked by the club. Publicity chair Diane Donato says each garden offers a different experience.

“We aim for a variety. Small gardens, big gardens, all different types of gardens; but the best of the lot”

Featured in this year’s tour is a garden that specializes in attracting birds and a garden built around sculptures.

Seven time Garden Club President and featured garden owner Julianna Cooper says the tour offers inspiration to gardening enthusiasts and the causal gardener alike.

“It’s a nice way to be able to experience and see what other people do with their gardens. Not everyone is a landscaper or has an idea of how they want to design their garden. You get inspired with ideas”

The proceeds from the Garden Tour help fund two $1,000 scholarships given by the club annually to outgoing Lewisburg students pursuing a career in science. Recipients from the class of 2015 are Amanda Johnson who will study Marine Biology at the University of North Carolina and Duncan Jones who is enrolled in the School of Environmental Studies at the University of Victoria in Victoria, British Columbia.

Tickets for the tour are $10 and can be purchased via PayPal at www.lewisburggardenclub.org. They can also be purchased at various locations including Susquehanna River Valley Visitor’s Bureau, The Purple Platypus, The Mercantile, Cherry Alley Café, Reiff’s Greenhouse, & at the garden on the day of the event.

For those interested in joining, The Lewisburg Gardening Club meets the second Monday of every month at St. John’s United Church of Christ off of Route 192. (Nick Rakauskas)
