Emotional Sunbury Police Chief Announces Retirement

SUNBURY — The Daily Item reports that Sunbury Police Chief Travis Bremigen surprised city officials  night by announcing his retirement effective Feb. 5. Bremigen, who joined the department 23 years ago and became chief in , grew emotional as he told council it was time to begin a new chapter.

The Daily Item reports Bremigen reflected on major cases, including his role leading the 2014 investigation that resulted in life sentences for Miranda and Elytte Barbour. He told the council the department is strong, and he plans to remain as a part-time officer. Council later voted to retain him in that role after his retirement.
