DUI Moving Memorial comes to Danville

DUI2 DUIDANVILLE – With Labor Day approaching on Monday, the Pennsylvania DUI Association is warning motorists about the importance of a designated driver.  The DUI Victim’s Moving Memorial made a stop at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville today and features the names of Pennsylvanians killed by impaired drivers.

Montour County District Attorney Rebecca Warren says they need to strengthen the state’s DUI laws, “The DUI laws allow you to wipe your slate clean after every 10 years, and they are only misdemeanor DUI’s no matter what the circumstances are.  Contrast that to retail theft, where on your third offense, it’s an automatic felony no matter what the price was of the item that you have stolen.”

Warren continued, “Human lives are very important.  We don’t want to see people drinking and driving or doing drugs and driving.  There needs to be increased sentencing and penalties for those who do it on a repeat basis.”

Warren says it’s always difficult when someone loses a loved one in a senseless act.  She encouraged everyone to use caution this holiday weekend.  You can find photos and video of the DUI Victim’s Moving Memorial on our website at www.wkok.com.  The permanent memorial is located in Harrisburg.  (Ali Stevens)
