SUNBURY – Independent contractors have their chance to work with PennDOT in upcoming projects. The idea is to let people know what’s out there and how they can get involved, what kind of paperwork they have to go through and other information. The session is being held by the Greater Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce, along with Cheyney University.

Dave Herbert joined Friday’s On The Mark program, “These are specifically geared towards women, minority and veteran owned businesses. As a chamber we would not be doing our job if we didn’t see the way to get as many jobs for our local people as possible. And we had some discussion here today about start up businesses, its probably an opportune time for them to get involved.”

PennDOT District Contract Management Engineer Kenneth Klingerman also joined the On The Mark program to explain the requirements for sub-contractors working for PennDOT, “The prime contractor is required to do a minimum of 50 percent of the work and they can sub-contract out the rest of it. But the goal for the sub-contract to work for the DBE firm is six percent and it is up to the contractor to go out and solicit these DBE firms to do specialized work.”
