LEWISBURG — What will happen to the soon-to-be-old Lewisburg high school…talked about at a ‘repurposing’ meeting Thursday night. Representatives of GreenSpace Properties made their case for a proposed community and research center at what is the current Lewisburg High School.
The Lewisburg school board’s Repurposing Committee received the GreenSpace proposal two weeks ago and had the opportunity to question the developer Thursday night.
The GreenSpace proposal includes space for the Donald Heiter Community Center, Hildebrandt Learning Center, Bucknell Small Business Development and other community organizations. Representatives from these organizations spoke about the advantages of moving into the high school building.
Much of the committee’s questioning focused on the development of townhomes along St. Louis Street as well as the exterior appearance of the high school. Erin Jablonski, who worked on the GreenSpace proposal said the questions weren’t unexpected, “I think certainly the neighborhood wants to have an attractive development. The community wants to have a building that isn’t shuttered. I think this is kind of their last chance to do the right thing with the property because once they sell it, it’s sold.”
Another proposal from Williamson County Investment Group of Austin, Texas arrived early Thursday morning. The committee chose not to consider the proposal, as it was submitted more than a month late. The committee expects to make a decision on the GreenSpace proposal at their next meeting in late June. (Jennifer Wakeman)
