Check Fraud Scam Costs Lewisburg Man Nearly $47,000

LEWISBURG — A 65-year-old Lewisburg man tells state police he lost nearly $47,000 after falling victim to a large-prize check scam. Authorities say the victim received a letter claiming he won $4.5 million but needed to pay fees and taxes before collecting the money.

Police say he mailed $46,499 in checks to several people connected to what investigators describe as a criminal organization. Troopers say the scheme involved deception and impersonation, and the investigation continues through the Milton patrol unit. Anyone with similar experiences is asked to call state police. Local residents have lost hundreds of thousands of dollars lately due to similar scams.
