Behavioral Health Added To Law Enforcement Treatment Initiative

LEWISBURG — Attorney General Dave  has expanded the Law Enforcement Treatment Initiative to include behavioral health services. The enhanced program launched in Columbia, Montour, Snyder, and Union counties and he said the LETI initiative is long overdue.

It connects people struggling with substance use or behavioral health issues to treatment instead of prosecution. Law enforcement can now make direct referrals to CMSU Behavioral Health and Developmental Services for assessment and support.

CMSU Administrator Mary Lyn Cadman says the new model “supports our mission by enhancing collaboration between CMSU, police, and district attorneys.

She says the goal is to provide “a behavioral health response instead of a legal response.” State officials say the initiative has received more than 2,500 referrals statewide. They add that the program helps reduce stigma and strengthen trust between police and local communities.
