Allergies have sprung with Spring

Hare1SUNBURY— How can you tell if you are just suffering symptoms of a cold or if you have allergies? Dr. Nathan Hare from Allergy Partners of Lewisburg was a recent guest on On The Mark and he says a lot of people can mistake a cold for an allergy.

Dr. Hare said, “Things like itchy eyes, sneezing, runny noses. Those tend to be more allergy. You can get a runny nose with a cold but not so much of the sneezing and itchy, watery eyes.”

Hare continued, “There’s no specific trigger, that we know of, that leads our immune system to develop an allergy where you can essentially have no allergy then develop it out of the blue as it were and more prominently for environmental allergies but it can happen.”

Peanut allergies have had a significant increase of 3 to 4 percent of kids over the last five years. You can listen to Dr. Hare’s entire discussion on allergies from WKOK’s On The Mark program at wkok.com (Lauren Koch)
