LEWISBURG – People who love riding their bicycle can take part in the 5th Annual Freedom Bike Ride coming up. It is part of the Union County Veterans 4th of July Celebration. The Freedom Bike Ride is a five-day event, taking place at a number of sites in Pennsylvania.
Kevin Bittenbender is organizer of the event, “The first day will be at Gettysburg Battlefield, so we will be riding around the entire battlefield of Gettysburg. The next day, we will be at Fort Indiantown Gap and we will do a 28 mile and that will be our shortest ride, to commemorate the 28th Infantry Division. And then the following day, we will be up in Scranton and will do a war memorial. And then the 26th will be here in the Susquehanna Valley. We are going to go all through Lewisburg, Montandon, Potts Grove, Milton and Watsontown area.”
Biittenbender says the last day they will be in Mifflinburg and then to Lewisburg to start the Union County Veteran’s 4th of July parade. Bittenbender says they have lots of support for the riders during the five days, “We have transportation for the bicycles. We have an enclosed trailer set-up system that we can hang your bicycles. They are not going to get damaged or torn up.” There is also transportation for the bikers with support vehicles on the course with the riders.
The Freedom Bike Ride is an event to raise awareness and support of our military troops, both past and present. Each day of the event, the ride will be held in memory of a veteran killed in the line of duty. The event is open to all riders and you can ride the entire five days or just one day.
