Potts Grove Firefighters Working to Be Recertified Soon

POTTS GROVE – After being decertified as the emergency services provider in East Chillisquaque Township, Potts Grove Fire Company says its working with the township to get back into service.

Potts Grove Fire Company Lieutenant Jason Messersmith says the fire company did feel it provided sufficient information to the township to keep its certification, but they are still working with two of the township supervisors to resolve issues in a positive manner.

The township decertified the fire company earlier this week due to not meeting its bylaws and certain state and federal requirements.

Messersmith says the fire company is also working to pay for its own workrs compensation, instead of the township paying for it. He says when that insurance is purchased; the fire company can resume training, and eventually can return to responding to calls.

Currently, the Milton Fire Department is the emergency services provider for the township. Messersmith says according to the agreement with Milton, it must be given 60 days notice before Potts Grove can work back to recertification as the emergency services provider for the township.
