DANVILLE — A group of high schoolers are learning philanthropy. Students from 18 school districts across the region awarded over $90,000 to local nonprofits through the Community Giving Foundation’s Youth in Philanthropy program.
At a year-end celebration Tuesday at Danville High School, students presented 103 grants to support youth programs. Grants included $2,750 for the Bloomsburg Food Cupboard’s Panther Packs, and $2,500 for the Greater Susquehanna Valley YMCA’s youth program expansion.
Youth in Philanthropy, now in its 21st year, empowers students to assess community needs and distribute funds. Since the program’s founding, students have awarded more than $700,000 across Central Pennsylvania.
