York County State Senator hopes to be governor of Pennsylvania

YORK – One candidate has declared their intentions to run for Governor of Pennsylvania.  State Senator Scott Wagner (R-28th, York) says he is busy traveling the state listening to constituents.

Wagner said, “As I travel across the state, I hear the concerns of many people.  I also had the opportunity when I chaired the Senate Republican Campaign Committee for the last two years, I was traveling across the state working on Senate races, and I heard about the economy, the coal industry, taxes and the pension crisis.”

Wagner said he has the experience needed to be governor, “I am the only person out there, even unannounced.  There are some people talking about running.  But, I’ve been inside the Senate for three years.  I know how the building works.  I’ve seen firsthand what the problems are.  I’ve seen firsthand where the opportunities are.”

Wagner continued, “At the end of the day, I think people get to know me and I’m a candidate that has been on the inside.  I have private sector business skills.  Everybody has been very receptive and I’m excited.  I’m doing this to win and I expect to be the next Governor.”

He said he has worked hard to further communication in the Pennsylvania House and Senate, “When I got to Harrisburg in April of 2014, I noticed something pretty intriguing.  I noticed a lot of Senate members in my own caucus did not know anything about each other.  In the first 60 days, I invited the Republican Senate Caucus out for dinner.  Eleven other Republican Senate members showed up.  It was a kickoff of building some relationships.  I tell you, I’m proud that we have seen a culture change in the Senate.  I think we have seen a culture change in the House also.”

Wagner is a lifelong resident of York County and the President and owner of York-based Penn Waste Inc. and KBS Trucking in Thomasville.  You can hear more from Wagner, who was a recent guest on WKOK’s On The Mark program online at WKOK.com.  (Ali Stevens)
