YMCA will open a new facility in Mifflinburg

MIFFLINBURG – The Greater Susquehanna Valley YMCA will soon have a bigger presence in Mifflinburg.  Bonnie McDowell, CEO says they Y has been at work in Union County for the last six years even without a permanent location, “We’ve been running programs in the community although we didn’t have our own physical space and location so community organizations, such as churches have been very generous with their space.”

The new location at 333 East Chestnut Street, the former Extreme Fitness building, will allow the Y to expand it’s programming, “There’s space in the facility now where it’s fitness/wellness, so there’s exercise equipment, there’s a group exercise room, but then there’s some additional space now that we’re going to be able to expand and have programs for seniors and youth.”

The YMCA is working on expansion in Union County, with a new full-service YMCA facility proposed for Lewisburg.  That building is expected to have a competitive pool and warm water therapy pool, a full size gym, health and wellness center, teen and senior program center and full-day child care.  Members of the Mifflinburg YMCA facility would have access to both facilities once the Lewisburg site is built.  The Y is in the early stages of fundraising for the Lewisburg YMCA.
