YMCA gathering coats for the annual coat drive

ymcaSUNBURY — The Sunbury YMCA is busy collecting coats for the annual Coat Drive in November.  Molly Aungst helps organize the event at the YMCA and says they have some help collecting coats.

Aungst said, “Bowen Agency is helping us this year at their office in Selinsgrove.  Shikellamy Football had a coat drive for us.  Also, out at our Mifflinburg location, they are collecting coats for us.”

She says you can also bring coats to the Sunbury YMCA, “We would like to have most of them by November 14 because Steininger’s Dry Cleaning cleans all of the coats, so that will give them some time to finish up.  Really we take them all year round.”

Adult and children coats are being collected, but children’s coats are more in demand.  Aungst talked about when those who need coats can get them, “November 21st is the first day at four o’clock and we will usually have a line outside the door, starting around 2:30, so it’s pretty busy on the first day.  And then we are there all day Tuesday on the 22nd and then in the morning on Wednesday.  It’s always the first three days before Thanksgiving.”

Also being collected are hats, gloves, scarves, boots, sweatshirts and fleece jackets.  Each member of the family can get one winter coat at the coat drive in November.  (Ali Stevens)
