SUNBURY – There are seven declared candidates on the ballot for Northumberland County Commissioner, but there is also a write-in campaign by Tom Webb. The owner of Spyglass Ridge Winery outside of Sunbury says dissatisfaction in county government prompted his write-in effort.
Webb said, “I was constantly disgusted and complaining to my wife and finally she said, stop, I don’t want to hear it anymore. She said if you are not going to do something about it, then you have to stop complaining about it. So, it was too late for me to really try to get the Republican nomination. So I said to my wife, the only alternative for me is to get the write-in.”
Webb says change is needed and that means getting along with each other, “I don’t care if you are a Democrat or a Republican or anything. But, somewhere along the way we have to reach across the aisle here and make it work. It borderlines insanity and almost really makes our county a laughing stock in a way. It’s embarrassing.”
Webb says he knows he’s a long-shot and if he doesn’t win this time, he will seek the Republican nomination for commissioner in a future election. You can hear more from Webb from WKOK’s On The Mark program online at www.wkok.com. (Ali Stevens)
