SUNBURY – Some community members and leaders are remembering former Sunbury Mayor Jesse Woodring. He died Monday evening at the age of 82.
Anne Rebuck, past President of the Sunbury Rotary Club, worked with Woodring in Rotary for years, “As a Sunbury Rotarian, and past president, he was an active, caring, and generous member. Jesse was fun-loving, and had a unique way of treating those who knew him feel as if they were his special friend.”
Shamokin Dam mayor and co-host of WKOK’s On The Mark Joe McGranahan also worked with Woodring in the Rotary club and on the Sunbury Community Hospital board.
He says Woodring loved the city of Sunbury and started an ‘Image Committee,’ “He realized that the city of Sunbury, the hospital, and the school district often got a bad rap, a rap they didn’t deserve, and he wanted to do something about that. So he put a whole group of community people together and got them working on ways to promote the positive image of the hospital, the city, and the school district. He never, never wavered in his commitment to the hospital, to this community.”
Woodring was Mayor of Sunbury from 2006 through 2009.
