HARRISBURG – Governor Tom Wolf’s opening address at this weekend’s Pennsylvania Farm Show was disrupted by animal rights activists who were protesting what they deem as mistreatment of animals in the dairy, egg and meat industries.
The Daily Item reports that a dozen activists seated in the crowd at the Main Arena in the Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg, stood up and moved behind and beside the governor as he addressed the crowd. Holding banners and signs, they chanted “It’s not food, it’s violence” as they were escorted out by police.
Wolf continued his speech as if there were no protests going on around him. The animal rights group says the Farm Show promotes animals as human property, instead of individuals. (The Daily Item/Sara Lauver)
