HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) – Gov. Tom Wolf is praising a move by the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board to allow beer distributors to sell brew by the 12-pack, but a statewide brewers association is unhappy about it. Wolf said Friday’s advisory legal opinion is a step toward modernization that will enhance customer convenience and enable smaller breweries to better compete with larger companies.
But a group that claims to represent brewers who employ 10,000 employees of small Pennsylvania breweries says the rules change will put them at a competitive disadvantage. The Brewers of Pennsylvania says its members can produce 12-packs, but lack the manufacturing and packaging capability to produce the 18-packs sold by the large out-of-state brewing companies. The group says it will work with legislators to resolve its concerns.
