West Nile case in Northumberland County

NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY—The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has identified a positive case of a human affected by West Nile Virus in Northumberland County. The DEP’s website says the case involves a male. But the DEP does not release the municipality where human cases are detected. It’s the first positive case for a human in the county since 2007.

The positive identification of a human comes just as the surveillance period for the year is scheduled to end this week. 12 people, including eight men and four women, have tested positive for the virus in 10 Pennsylvania counties so far this year.
