Watsontown mayor charged with criminal mischief

David HontzWATSONTOWN – The mayor of Watsontown has been charged with criminal mischief for an incident dating back to September.  State police say David Hontz removed a sign from a Watsontown resident’s yard on Main Street and threw it against their barn.  He was charged this week by state police.

A group of residents in Watsontown have been trying to get Hontz to resign from his job for several months.  A petition circulated in the borough last year, asking the mayor to resign, received hundreds of signatures.  However, Hontz refused to do so, despite the petition.  (Ali Stevens)
