Visit restrictions at Geisinger hospitals

geisingerDANVILLE — Geisinger Health System has issued restrictions on hospital visits. Officials say there is a temporary restriction prohibiting children under the age of five from visiting children’s and women’s inpatient units because of the seasonal increase in pediatric respiratory syncytial (RSV) cases.

RSV is a respiratory virus that infects the lungs and breathing passages. The number of RSV cases rises in the fall and winter months. Young patients have vulnerable immune systems and may not be able to fight off this potentially dangerous virus. The temporary restriction is typically and is usually lifted at the end of winter.
