Victor Hare trial likely to be postponed

FEATvictor hareSUNBURY — The man accused of involuntary manslaughter in the death of a 9-year-old boy will not likely go to trial until March.  The trial for 60-year-old Victor Hare III of Point Township is expected to be postponed.

Hare was scheduled for a status conference Monday morning and his attorney said he needed more time to prepare his defense.  The prosecution did not oppose that request. However,  Northumberland County President Judge Charles Saylor was not involved in the discussion between attorneys and has not yet agreed on a trial delay.

Jury selection in the case is still scheduled for January 9, with a five-day trial planned to begin January 17.  If the trial is postponed, jury selection would begin March 13.

Hare is charged in connection with the death of Korbin Rager of Sunbury on October 13, 2014.  The boy died while staying at Hare’s home.  Police say Hare gave Rager oxycodone and alcohol resulting in his death.  (Ali Stevens)
