LEWISBURG— A professor in The Valley is upset with reactions from around the country about how the federal government should respond to the Paris terrorist attacks. Steven Stamos, Emeritus professor of International Relations at Bucknell University, says the reactions about the Paris terrorist attacks is a typical knee-jerk reaction.
He says people need to consider the strain a war against ISIS would put on our military, “What is it that the President is hearing from the military? We’re on the ground there, we’ve got advisors, we’ve got intelligence stuff, so if we’re going to contemplate some serious action, it’s going to be prolonged, its going to be a multiple levels, you have to decide how many troops and from where and where to begin.”
Stamos even says President Obama’s statement saying U.S. Troops had contained ISIS made some sense, “I don’t want to be a huge defender of this because I don’t come at it that way. I think what he meant by that was that we take a quarter back of the land that they held, we had a win in the city of Singular, and the idea then is to cut off their supply routes and start making life more difficult for them.”
Most U.S. citizens are in favor of some type of military action. You can hear more of Stamos’ comments from WKOK’s On The Mark online at wkok.com. (Matt Catrillo)
