SUNBURY – A Sunbury native will be heading up a statewide non-profit organization promoting economic development in the state. Ryan Unger has been named President & CEO of Team Pennsylvania, a non-partisan, charitable, non-profit created in 1997 to bring government and private sector leaders together for economic development efforts.
Unger said, “It’s a big state and a lot of diversity, but there is a lot of issues that impact all Pennsylvanians. It’s important for us to focus on those issues and help them to bring projects and deals, and also work to bring a lot of people together. I think that’s one thing we have done a good job of over the years. We are that place where business and industry and the public sector can all gather together to solve what are common problems.”
Unger said his experience working for the Greater Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce taught him skills needed for this new position, “Well, there it was a lot easier to see a connection because you are helping your hometown and your home region and the same thing with my job at SEDA-COG, helping my home region succeed. Now I get an opportunity to still help my home region and hometown succeed, but on a broader level, throughout the state.”
Unger graduated from Shikellamy High School and Elizabethtown College, where he serves as president of the Alumni Association. He moved from Sunbury to Harrisburg in 2011, when he was named COO of Team PA.
