Valley Leader in DEP Local Climate Action Program

HARRISBURG – One Valley community member was one of 12 participants who have completed DEP’s Local Climate Action Program. Taylor Lightman, Lewisburg Neighborhoods Executive Director, represented Lewisburg in the program.

DEP says the program conducts inventories of local greenhouse gas emissions and helps develop plans to reduce emissions and mitigate climate change risk. Some Bucknell University students also took part.

DEP says, when they complete their plans, municipalities are eligible for free services from an energy management consultant, coordinated by DEP, to determine the most effective first steps to reduce emissions.

Lightman says creating the infrastructure necessary to do this enhances our community.

He said for example, the borough would like to enhancing their tree canopy reforest its historic cemetery. He says that improvement would sequester carbon, absorb stormwater, and provide habitat for wildlife.

Meantime, Lightman says the borough would like the public to take its short survey about climate action at www.lewisburgneighborhoods.org.
