Valley hits Needy Family Fund goal again

SELINSGROVE – The $75,000 goal for the Needy Family Fund has been reached just in time for Christmas Day.  The fund is now at $100,535, now that the Degenstein Foundation added another $25,000 to the total.  The fund supports families in need this holiday season and is administered by the Salvation Army citadels in Sunbury and Milton.

Major Sharon Cupp of the Salvation Army in Sunbury is extremely grateful to those who donated, “It’s great because you get to see people’s faces and what they received.  And, how many people we’ve helped this time of year.  Without this fund, it just wouldn’t be possible.”
Food, toys and clothing were distributed earlier this week to more than 500 Valley families.  Cupp is also thankful for the Degenstein Foundation’s annual challenge grant, “I am so grateful for the Degenstein Foundation. They are helping people in our communities.  They are a wonderful bunch of people.”

Helping the fund reach the $75,000 goal were recent donations of $1,000 from Sunbury Motor Company and $500 from Tom and Dobble Mattern.  Donations are still being accepted for the Needy Family Fund at BB&T.  The Needy Family Fund is sponsored by the Daily Item, Sunbury Broadcasting Corporation and BB&T.  (Ali Stevens)
