NORTHUMBERLAND – Motorists could see travel delays through Northumberland this summer in advance of next year’s major road reconstruction. Chris Neidig, PennDOT’s project manager for the Northumberland project, says utility companies will be working along Duke, Water, King and Front Streets, “To determine what impacts our roadway would have on the utilities, then what has to be done as a result of that?”
Neidig says consultants are now helping PennDOT determine which stop signs, if any, will be removed during the detours next year. “Over the next twenty months we’re going be working on developing our plan for maintaining stop signs or covering stop signs and we’ll present those to the focus group meeting before our fall public meeting.”
The detour plan was finalized last week with input from the focus group consisting of concerned citizens, Shikellamy school district, and local emergency services. Another public meeting will take place this fall, but you can see the most current project plans online at www.penndot.gov/dukestreet. (Jennifer Wakeman)
