SUNBURY– US Congressman Tom Marino (R-10, Cogan Station) says it’s a ‘bad idea’ to send more US troops to Iraq. The advisors were announced by the president yesterday, and the next day, congressman Marino said the president’s policies are ‘way off.’ The congressman believes there are several approaches President Obama can take before sending more troops to the Middle East.

In an interview on WKOK’s On The Mark Thursday morning, Marino said the US should rely more heavily on air strikes, “We can significantly increase our air superiority and take out many of these people (ISIS). On average, we’re running about 12 air attacks on a weekly basis, that should be stepped up to hundreds.”

Congressman Marino says Obama has made mistakes in the past that have lead to the instability in the region and he thinks a stronger air strategy should be pursued before sending more troops to the middle east, “We should first still bomb the heck out of them and then talk about what weapons they need to defend themselves.”

Marino believes the troop increase is not going to be helpful and that the president’s policies are not strong enough. As a member of theĀ  NATO Parliamentary Assembly, the congressman thinks the US needs to play a much more significant role in international efforts to combat terrorism, including as a leading nation within NATO.
