SUNBURY — A Northumberland County man has died after being stuck by a vehicle on Route 61 Tuesday afternoon in Shamokin Township, Northumberland County. Stonington State police tell us in a news release 72-year-old George Kovaschetz of Sunbury was pronounced dead at Geisinger Medical Center.
They say Kovaschetz was struck while crossing Route 61just after 1:30 pm. The News- Item reports Kovaschetz was crossing the road to retrieve mail from his mail box.
Route 61 was closed at the intersection with Joe’s Road (near Joe’s Auto Parts) for about three hours following the accident. Police say the investigation is ongoing.
