LEWISBURG, PA – Union County taxes are going….down for 2022. That’s not a typo, at their December 28 board meeting, the Union County Commissioners unanimously approved the 2022 budget that lowers the county’s real estate property taxes, and includes pay raises.
The 2022 budget totals $23.5 million. Finance director Jeffrey McClintock called it a ‘modest tax decrease.’ He said the county’s real estate millage included a half mill for debt service, but the Great Steam Commons site was sold, so that debt service tax is no longer needed.
The budget includes some pay raises for eligible employees; they’ll receive a step increase that will average about 2.5% for workers. They’ll also receive a one-percent base salary adjustment, and a one-time payment of $100.00 per month worked in 2021. McClintock said this will represent a $377,000 increase in the budget.
Also Tuesday, Former East Buffalo Township supervisor Matt Schumacher was appointed to the board of the Union County Housing Authority for a five-year term: January 1, 2022 to December 31, 2026.
The three commissioners—Jeff Reber, Preston Boop, and Stacy Richards—were in attendance at the last board meeting of 2021. The next Commissioners’ board meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 4 at 2pm and the Union County Government Center. Meetings are held in-person or via Zoom. Comments from the public must be made in-person.
