Union Authorizes Strike as Penn State Negotiations Continue

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (WTAJ) — WTAJ is reporting… Teamsters Local 8 Union has voted to authorize a strike following a 33-hour voting period as negotiations with Penn State continue.  Out of 2053 members 91% voted yes to authorize a strike.

The Local 8 negotiating committee believes this result will help it reach an agreement with the University on a fair contract for its members.

The union, which represents 2,500 technical service employees at Penn State University, can now go on strike if their negotiating team and Penn State does not reach an agreement on a new contract by Sunday, June 30, when the current contract expires.

The union said they want to avoid a strike and will “do everything” to reach a fair agreement to avoid a strike. However, the union said they moved to authorize a strike if Penn State does not reach their demands.
