SUNBURY – Two Sunbury rape cases are in the headlines today.
The Daily Item reports a 21-year-old Sunbury man has been charged with raping a 15-year-old girl. Anthony Ponce was charged with felony rape and sexual assault for the incident that allegedly took place in November. The newspaper reports Sunbury police records say the girl was smoking marijuana in a home with Ponce when he forced her to perform a sex act.
The Daily Item also reports a Sunbury man who was on trial this week, charged with rape in 2020, was found not-guilty by a jury. 26-year-old Daniel Severn was accused of raping a woman, but a jury found him not-guilty after a four day trial. Severn took the stand in his defense and he was cleared of all charges against him.
