MOUNT CARMEL — Route 54 was shut down for several hours following a multi-vehicle crash in Mount Carmel Township on Thursday. The News Item reports 48-year-old James Minahan of Schuylkill County drove through a red light at Route 54 and Brennan’s Farm Road and struck an SUV and another vehicle.
The drivers of the other two vehicles were taken to local hospitals, but have not yet been identified. Their injuries were described as serious. Traffic was detoured off of Route 54 to Routes 901 and 61. The accident happened around 5:50 p.m. and Route 54 remained closed until about 9 p.m. We will update you on this story when more information is available.
