SHAMOKIN — A severe case of child abuse has resulted in criminal charges against two parents in Shamokin. Arrest papers say 23-year-old Marcus Akers and 20-year-old Emiyaah Blakely were suspected of child abuse when they child suffered severe injuries.
Akers is now facing four felony charges including aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child. Blakely is accused of a felony count of endangering the welfare of children and one other charge.
Police say the incident happened December 31, they say the child was taken to the hospital with a numerous injuries including a broken collar bone and a broken vertebra.
WBRE reports, Blakely states she needed to go to work and did not have a sitter, so she left the child alone with Akers knowing he was not allowed to be with the child alone.
Afterward Blakely said the child ‘was sore because he exercised his legs.’ The next day the child was not eating or smiling and was whining so they took the boy to the hospital. No word on the custody or condition of the child. The parents face a hearing next month.
