MANDATA — A family of four has lost all of their belongings in an early morning fire in Jackson Township, Northumberland County. Brett and Rachel Schadel and their boys were able to escape the fire unharmed and also rescued their dog.
The fire started around 4:30 a.m. at 842 Amish School Road near Mandata. Firefighters were on the scene in brutal cold weather battling that two-alarm fire until 8 a.m. No firefighters were injured. The investigation into what caused the fire continues.
The Herndon Fire Company is collecting blankets, clothing, canned goods and more for the Shadel family. The boys are sizes 8-10 and 10-12. Items can be dropped off at the firehouse. (Ali Stevens)
