MIFFLINBURG – For this year’s Turkey Trot in Mifflinburg, the founder of the race will be the turkey racers are trying to beat. Tara Michaels is race organizer and says Susan Chlebowski will be this year’s celebrity turkey at the race Thanksgiving morning.
Michaels said, “She formed the Mifflinburg Lacrosse Club and needed to do something to gain awareness and make a few dollars for the Lacrosse Club. We threw the idea together very quickly. That was five years ago and this is our 5th year anniversary, so it’s only fitting that Susan be our 5th annual turkey.”
Chlebowski admits it took her a few weeks to decide, since she isn’t a regular runner, “Ultimately I had to do it because I thought of all the students that have played lacrosse in the past. I’m basically asking them to do the same thing, move outside their comfort zone and try something new, and feel insecure, which I definitely do. I feel like I’m going to be the slowest turkey we have ever had.”
Racers who sign up for the Mifflinburg Turkey Trot are trying to beat the turkey to the finish line. Those who do get a special stamp on their race t-shirt.
